Dr Migiro, who has been appointed by President Jakaya Kikwete as the new Chancellor of OUT said this while delivering a speech during a function to celebrate her at the varsity on Friday.
Dr Migiro said: “When the President named me the Chancellor of OUT,
I simply jumped with delight! For I knew this appointment would take me
right back to academia.
I will remain ever grateful to him for the trust and confidence in me.”
She paid glowing tribute to the outgoing Chancellor, Dr John
Malecela, who has held the university’s chancellorship for twenty years
since its establishment.
Speaking of achievements reached by OUT, the new chancellor said,
“Over the years the university has stretched its tentacles to every
region in the country whereas today it boasts twenty-nine regional and
five coordination centres in the country as well as in Kenya, Namibia
and Rwanda.”
In his remarks at the event, the outgoing Chancellor of OUT Dr
Malecela commended all the staff and students for their contribution in
registered the achievements.
“Let me take this opportunity to congratulate the founder, Vice
Chancellor of OUT Prof Geoffrey Mmari and his team for their resilience
during the establishment of OUT in view of being able to work diligently
and with dedication even when the varsity was renting premises and at
times it had to shift from renting one public building to another in
search for a permanent home prior to moving to the current temporary
headquarters at Kinondoni in 2001,” he said.
In his remarks at the event, the Chairman of OUT Council, Prof
Samwel Wangwe welcomed the new Chancellor at the Kinondoni temporary
headquarters, thanking her for the visit.
He also thanked the outgoing Chancellor Dr John Samwel Malecela
for guiding the institution and leading it to its tremendous
achievements.
