Tanzania leading students registering university
(the Open University of Tanzania (OUT), is presently having over 40,000
registered students has signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding
with the Namibian Triumphant College under which Namibian students
would keep obtaining their education from OUT.
The MOU to that end was signed in Dar es Salaam on Thursday this week
the Managing Director of the Triumphant College, Elizabeth Kiangi on
the Namibian side and OUT Vice Chancellor, Professor Tolly Mbwette on
the Tanzanian side.
Professor Mbwette underscored the importance of sustaining such
collaborative initiatives at various levels be it within the SADC region
or beyond with a view to availing needed knowledge to the majority of
the people. That can be done through effective maximisation of what was
within reach, timely, through collaborative and rational utilization of
what was available, he stated.
Speaking at the event, the Triumphant College managing director
said cooperation between the college and OUT was working very well as
evidenced by the first five year –period, providing the rationale for
its being extended for another five-year period.
"Every year there is a monitoring process for students pursuing the
courses, characterized by among other things regular visits to avail
face to face relationships among students and lecturers for effective
and necessary interactions," she said.
It was further elaborated that the collaboration was facilitated through the SADC region and that they were very helpful.
“Under the bilateral arrangement, the OUT sends exams and marks
them in Tanzania and later awards those who have passed examinations,"
she stated.
The collaboration accord covers field of research, development,
education, training, transfer of skills and dissemination of knowledge
on a long term basis, the director added.
