FC BARCELONA Vs REAL MADRID (Super Cup): DID YOU KNOW…
The first leg of the Spanish Super Cup is the first ‘El Clasico’ of the season. Here are some of the facts surrounding the clash
- Leo Messi’s two goals in last season’s return leg of the Super Cup made him the highest scorer of the competition with 8.
- Messi is also currently Barça’s highest scorer against Real Madrid with 13 goals in 17 matches. He’s now just one goal away from equalling César as Barça’s highest ever scorer against Real Madrid.
- If he plays, Cesc Fàbregas will reach 50 matches as a Barça player. Curiously enough, it would be in the same competition and against the same opponent as he made his Club debut, the Spanish Super Cup 2011.
- In the last four years, the matches against Real Madrid in the Camp Nou have produced 4 home wins, 2 draws and one away win.
- Barça have won the Spanish Super Cup more times than any other club (10). Real Madrid are second with 8 trophies.
- If Barça lift the trophy this year it will be their fourth in a row – the first time this has ever been done.
- There have been four Spanish Super Cup matches between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid in the Camp Nou. Barça have scored 8 goals while Real Madrid have scored 6.
- A Barça win would go some way to reducing the gap with Real Madrid in terms of Spanish Super Cup matches played between the two clubs. At the moment Real Madrid lead 4-1
- This match will feature 13 players who helped Spain win EURO 2012 this summer, 8 for Barça and 5 for Real Madrid.
- Tito Vilanova will be in charge for his first match against Real Madrid as manager.
- Xavi could increase his total of 33 matches against Real Madrid – he already heads that particular ranking. Carles Puyol would equal Segarra’s 31 matches and second place in the ranking.
- A Barça win would place the two clubs neck and neck in terms of victories against each other. At the moment, Real Madrid have won 87 and Barça 86.
