Relationships go through several stages and we all experience a
lot of different feelings when we start dating. While they vary a little
depending on the people involved in the relationship, the
circumstances, culture and more, it is safe to say that the stages of a
relationship if it goes well, are almost universal.
1.CRUSH: When one person has a crush on another this can be a very exciting feeling. You swoon when they come into the room, you struggle to talk to them normally, and you try to make excuses to be near them. This can range from mild to intense and in some cases can be almost obsessive.
2. DATING: When you first start dating things are at first very slow. Here you realize how, actually, even if you have known this person prior to dating them, you do not really know anything about them. During this phase you will go on dates and things but will not really be comfortable with each other so that you can be yourselves. You are still both putting your best foot forward and trying to cover up your imperfections.
3. GOING OUT: At one point you have to stop dating casually and decide you want to be 'boyfriend' and 'girlfriend'. This big step can be marked by the change of the relationship status on Facebook. It basically means that you are not going to date anyone else, and that you liked dating the person enough to give them a go at a relationship. At the same time though you are still getting to know each other and getting past the awkward phase. For the whole first year you will be discovering stuff about each other.
4. HONEYMOON: The honeymoon stage comes when you feel you know the other person well and decide that you really like them. If once they start opening up you find they are not the person you thought they were, then this would end in the relationship finishing prematurely. However the alternative is that you find out that who they are is someone you really want to be with, and in this case you will find yourself infatuated by not yet being bogged down by the realities of life. Everything they do is perfect, you are sickeningly romantic together, and you want to spend every minute together. You pretty much will which will bring you on to the next step.
5. COMFORTABLE STAGE: Once the honeymoon period starts to fade you then find that you are feeling a lot more comfortable around each other and can be yourselves. This allows you to see what the realities of dating would really be like while facing challenges together. If all goes well then you will find that being with them is a very comfortable and pleasant experience and that you are now more yourself with them than with anyone else.
6. ATTACHED STAGE: At some point you then become so comfortable (if the complacency and reality does not put you off) that you start to feel almost dependent. You certainly can not imagine life without the other person and you stop considering other men or women. This is a very blissful stage and can result in your feeling ready to go ahead and declare your love in other ways as you start to become impatient for the future and find domestic ideas sexy rather than intimidating.
From here the relationship is no longer just a 'relationship', but something more as you become fiances, spouses and eventually parents.
